brief
history
In the years immediately following the end of the Second World War;
Costanzo Spataro could often be found behind his famous street barrow
in the lanes ofCapri. From here he sold the most delicious
ice creams and crushed ice drinks to the tourists, who strolled leisurely
around the centre. In no time at all, the courtesy and good
nature of Costanzo had won over inhabitants and visitors alike and the
success of the enterprise was such that it encouraged him to convert
an old wood store into a small bar, from which he could continue to
serve passers by with his delicacies. Thus, in 1952, the bar Scialapopolo
was born; 'Scialapopolo' being Costanzo's nickname, from 'scialare
il popolo': i.e.'to ensure that people eat and drink to their hearts
content, without worrying about the cost' - or anything else for
that matter! These days, as well as the traditional graniteand ice creams,Vittoria,
Francesco, and their son Mauro prepare a whole range of snacks, all
with one quality in common: a truly genuine taste, guaranteed by the
authenticity of the ingredients.
